My eyes flutter for a moment

Trying to see beyond my sight

The veil beckons as the call of the

Pipe and I hear and wish to follow --

To be led to a promised better life.

But as I start for that narrow path a

Strand twines 'round and holds me

Ever whispering sweet doubts.

Oh, the weight I carry that cannot be

Born, and Who would wish to

Lift it? Discouraged I turn

From that illumined course but

I cannot go back to the dusk.

That life is a tragedy which I will not

Take part - 'tis such that I cannot bear.

The voices call from the other side

And neither can I choose

For one is difficult and the

Other brings sorrow

And here I remain in limbo
